Update your details
What are personal and contact details?
Personal details are
- your name (first/middle/last name or single name as it appears on your verifiable identification (ID))
- preferred name
- date of birth
- country of birth
- town/city of birth
- gender.
Contact details are:
- mobile
- home phone
- postal address.
Update personal details
Your name on your USI account must match the name on your verifiable ID used to create the USI. If your name is incorrect on your USI, you can only change it by either:
- providing a different verifiable ID that shows your correct name
- updating your name with the issuer of your ID and then using the updated ID to change your USI.
We recommend that you use the same verifiable ID to create your USI, Tax File Number (TFN) and myGov account. If you update your personal details for your USI, make sure to also update your TFN and myGov account.
This matters because to access Commonwealth financial assistance (ie through an eCAF application) your USI details need to match the information held by the Australian Taxation Office on your TFN. If the details in your application do not match, you will not be able to access a HELP loan until you correct the error.
If your identification cannot be verified after 3 failed attempts, you can lodge a help request through the Student Portal and attach a photo of your ID for our team to action. Alternatively, you can call us.
Update more than one personal detail
If you need to change more than one personal detail e.g. first name and last name, please call us.
Updates that do not require verifiable ID
You do not need verifiable ID to update your preferred name, gender, country of birth or town/city of birth.
Update your contact details
It is important that you keep your USI contact details current to quickly access and share your USI.
