How to record your name
When a USI is created, the name on the USI account must match what is on the student’s verifiable identification (ID). Learn more about verifying your ID.
When you provide your name to your education or training provider, make sure it matches your name as it appears on your USI and your verifiable ID.
Why your name matters
Your USI is created using verifiable ID. Your USI account details cannot be changed to reflect a different name recorded by an education or training provider.
If your name on your education or training provider’s record does not match your USI account, it may prevent your USI from being verified. If your USI is unable to be verified by the education or training provider, you may not be able to enrol, access your training record or graduate.
Naming guidelines for creating a USI
If your verifiable ID displays first name, middle name and family name, or first name and family name, create your USI to reflect that.
If your verifiable ID displays only a single name, create your USI selecting 'No, I only have one name' and write your name in the name field.
Examples of name recordings:
| First name, middle name and family/last name | First name and family/last name | Single name |
|---|---|---|
John = first name James = middle name Smith = last name | John James = first name Smith = last name | Cher = single name |
