'Provide your USI' Functionality
Students are now able to provide their USI details to RTOs more easily, as well as grant RTOs permissions to view and download their transcripts directly from their USI account via the new ‘Provide your USI’ functionality.
The ‘Provide your USI’ functions available to students include options to:
- print USI verification details for their RTOs;
- email USI verification details to their RTOs;
- assign online permissions to their RTOs to view their transcripts as well as to view or update details on their behalf.
The ability for students to print and email their USI verification details will assist RTOs to easily and quickly verify a student’s USI and avoid transcription errors.
As part of this new system enhancement, RTOs are also now able to ‘Print USI details’ when they create a USI on behalf of a student. Click here for more information on the ‘Print USI Functionality’.
The view transcript function has the potential to significantly streamline enrolment and credit transfer processes for RTOs but student uptake will rely heavily on RTOs explaining the benefits and providing encouragement and support including providing students with their RTO code to simplify the search process.
For more information on how students can set permissions for their RTOs to view transcripts, refer to instructions on the USI website.

This code will be valid in the AVETMIS Standard, and pass validation in the AVETMISS validation software (AVS) from 21 August 2017.
For more information on the individual exemptions, please visit the USI website.
USI Business Operations value add
To help reduce burden on RTOs, the Business Operations team continuously review call volumes, trends, website statistics and frequently asked questions received from the contact centre by all stakeholders. Using this information, the Business Operations team looks at ways to improve service, access to online information and the USI Registry system to best support sector requirements. The Business Operations team is currently conducting a student survey designed to investigate the use of the self-help options for the creation of USIs, ease of navigation and ability to find information and services on the USI website. This is an ongoing activity, if you have any suggestions we would value your insights. Please call the contact centre on 1300 857 536 or send an email to USIAdmin@education.gov.au
The Business Operations team’s analysis of the number of students who have granted permission to RTOs to view and update USI accounts and/or permission to view transcripts currently indicates that there has not been a large number of students using the function. To assist with raising awareness of these system updates, our contact centre staff are suggesting to students that they grant access to RTOs for this functionality, it will help if you can work this student advice into your new processes.
Additionally to assist RTOs we are also suggesting to all students who create a new USI that they email verification details directly to RTOs to reduce the effort required in collecting and verifying student USIs.
