Upcoming USI Registry System Enhancements for students and RTOs
On Sunday 24 June 2018 we will be implementing some changes for students and RTOs in the USI Registry System:
when a student logs into their USI account they will notice that their name and USI is more prominent on the screen. This is in response to student feedback that they have trouble locating their USI when logged in to their account. Students will also be able see the date and time they last logged into their account.
we have also increased the download capacity for USI transcripts for both students and RTOs to allow longer transcripts to be generated. While most student’s transcripts are still relatively short at this stage (ie. a couple of pages in length) we have come across an example of a very long transcript and have increased System capacity to deal with this.
REMINDER: USI Registry System – Security protocol upgrade coming soon
Do you currently access the USI Registry System via webservices using your own student management system (SMS)?
On the 22 July 2018, we are making an important upgrade to the security protocols relating to the USI Registry System to minimise any security vulnerabilities. This is consistent with the Australian Government Department of Education and Training’s IT Security Policy and industry standards.
We have contacted software providers advising them of this change and to ask them to make any necessary upgrades to their SMS software. We also recommended that software providers contact RTOs who may be affected by the change. This is particularly important for those RTOs using outdated and unsupported Microsoft Operating Systems such as Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 as these Operating Systems may not be compatible with the upgrade and may not be able to establish a secure connection to the USI Registry System. In addition, these Operating Systems may not have had security upgrades applied for several years and may have other security vulnerabilities.
If you are not sure if this change applies to you, please contact your software provider to find out more details

Happy Birthday USI Transcripts! – Social Media Posts now ready to share
In light of the USI transcript service turning one last month, the USI Office shared celebratory social media posts on the Departmental social media platforms. We encourage you to view and share them from your own organisation’s social platforms from the links below.
Post Implementation Review - Thank you for your participation
Thank you to RTOs who responded to our post implementation review survey and to those RTOs, students and other organisations that provided feedback as part of our review.
We will provide information on the review outcomes in a future bulletin.
Digital Transformation Agency’s new Digital Identity Program
The Australian Government Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) wants to understand how businesses (or other organisations) interact with government, such as through IT systems. This is part of DTA's new digital identity program, which aims to offer users quick and simple options to prove who they are when they interact with government. For more information, please refer to DTA’s website.
