USI Collection and Reporting Tips
As mentioned in the previous Bulletin the USI Office will be contacting some RTOs towards the end of September to discuss USI collection and reporting issues. This is with a view to identifying and working through solutions that will improve inclusion of USIs in future AVETMISS submissions.
Collecting and verifying USIs at enrolment, prior to the commencement of training, is the best administrative approach and one that we strongly encourage all RTOs follow in order to achieve and maintain 100% USI reporting accuracy.
The following suggestions may assist you in further improving your USI reporting accuracy:
- To identify why USIs are missing from your data submission - start with the NCVER’s fact sheet on USI validation.
- Consider how you report? Is it directly to the NCVER, through a State Training Authority or Board of Studies, or maybe a combination of some or all of these?
- Check your Student Management System (SMS) or contact your SMS Provider and ask them to investigate the possibility of issues with your system or coding.
- Check data reported without USIs, do these have valid exemptions? Are these exemptions and associated codes being captured at the time of reporting?
The USI Office would like to gauge your interest in participating in a post-2016 USI Data Analysis Webinar which will cover among other things outcomes of the analysis, lessons learned and how to improve reporting of USIs. Please Have Your Say.
