USI Transcript – 2017- Second Quarter State Training Authority Submitted Data Now Available
USI Transcripts now include records of nationally recognised training commenced, in progress or completed in the first two quarters of 2017, that have been reported to the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) by State Training Authorities. The first and second quarters cover the period 1 January 2017 to 30 June 2017.
Most government funded training activity and some fee for service training activity is submitted quarterly by State Training Authorities (STA) and included in USI Transcripts shortly thereafter. Most fee for service (unsubsidised) training and data from Boards of Studies for Vocational Education and Training (VET) in schools training activity is submitted annually and thus won’t be included in USI Transcripts until the following year. Arrangements for reporting through STAs vary slightly between jurisdictions. Your STA can provide information about its arrangements.
Data is available in the USI Transcript after processing by NCVER – either quarterly or annually, depending on submission frequency to NCVER.
RTOs should note that 2017- First and Second Quarter data will only show activity, eg completions and continuing units/modules up to 30 June 2017. Updates to data submitted in the current year can only be made using standard AVETMISS submissions processes and will therefore be available for display in USI Transcripts when the data for the next quarter is submitted by State Training Authorities.
Over 100,000 students have now viewed their transcripts online. RTOs which assess applicant credentials to determine completion of pre-requisite training or credit transfers are reminded that they can request direct access to the online USI Transcript from their students.

2016 Data Analysis of Inclusion of USIs in AVETMISS Submissions
RTOs will be aware that collection and reporting of USIs is a requirement under the Standards for RTOs 2015. Earlier this year the USI Office conducted an analysis of USI reporting in 2015 AVETMISS data on behalf of VET Regulators. It was the first opportunity to conduct an analysis due to the nature of the annual reporting cycle. This proved a useful exercise, uncovering reporting issues for some RTOs, including a few Student Management System problems and identified approaches that could be implemented to improve the collection and reporting of USIs.
The USI Office will conduct an analysis of the 2016 AVETMISS data over the coming weeks. Early analysis shows an overall improvement in USI reporting compared to 2015, however there is still room for further improvement. Following analysis of the data, the USI Office will be contacting some RTOs in the coming weeks to discuss where potential issues have been identified. Please keep an eye on the USI website for more information and RTO Bulletins to remain informed.
