  • your education or training provider may have created one for you
  • another student may have details similar to yours.

Please continue to verify your details with the same form of ID, ensuring your name matches how it appears on your ID documentation.

If you fail to create a USI after three attempts, submit a Help Request by clicking 'Request Help', attach your ID documents, and we will contact you.

When you create your USI, you can:
•    email your USI to your education or training provider
•    print your USI to give to your provider.

This makes it easier for education or training providers to verify a USI. Both options display the following details of the USI account holder:
•    the USI
•    first name
•    middle name (if applicable)
•    last name
•    date of birth.

You can email your USI to multiple email addresses using the ‘email your USI’ section in the Student Portal.

Please see the below instructions on printing and emailing your USI
•    From the USI website www.usi.gov.au, select 'Login to the USI Registry System and select Student Portal'.
•    Agree to the terms and conditions and log in to your account
•    Select 'Provide your USI'
o    To print a copy of your USI, select the 'Print USI' option and press print once your letter of creation has appeared
o    To email a copy of your USI, enter the email address you would like to send the email to in the email field and then select 'Send'

If there is a duplicate USI account, one USI account will be revoked and the other USI number retained.

If this occurs, all training will be amalgamated on to your correct USI which you are able to access through your USI account and you will need to provide your retained USI number to your education or training provider.

Each email address associated with a USI account must be unique. The same email address cannot be used across multiple USI accounts.

You must use an email address that is unique to you because this can also be used as your User ID when logging into the USI Registry System.

For privacy reasons the USI Registry System does not allow an email address to be used on more than one USI account.

We take your privacy seriously. To ensure that your data is protected from fraud and maintain the integrity of the USI, we need to conduct a Proof of Identity (POI) check over the phone before we can answer any questions about your USI or provide assistance on how to create one.

We also take your privacy seriously if you need help verifying ID documents when creating a USI or updating your details in the Student Portal – via sending a Help Request within our secure system.

This removes the need to send sensitive personal information via email and any associated risk.
