The USI account is secured by a multi-layered ICT system of firewalls to ensure only authorised users can access the USI account. Like other systems, it is also monitored to detect suspicious or inappropriate behaviour.

The USI account can only be accessed by the student using their USI or email and password.
The student determines which organisations can have access to their USI account.

Training organisations are required to report regularly to the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) by submitting AVETMISS compliant reports including USIs. From January 2015 USIs will need to be reported as part of the AVETMISS collection.
