My details match another USI but I haven't created one yetClose the My details match another USI but I haven't created one yet FAQ item.
If you are studying at a training organisation they may have created a USI account on your behalf. If you are not currently studying and believe that a training organisation has not created a USI on your behalf or another student may have similar details to you.
Please try to create a USI again. If after three failed attempts this continues you will be able to raise a Help Request by clicking on ‘request help’ and a USI Office staff member will contact you. Please make sure your contact details are correct.
I do not know my town or city of birthClose the I do not know my town or city of birth FAQ item.
Your town or city of birth appears on your birth certificate and often your passport. If you do not have a birth certificate or passport you may need to use the closest town or city to where you were born (make a best guess).
I don't know my date of birthClose the I don't know my date of birth FAQ item.
If you are unable to locate your date of birth (DOB) on any document accepted by the USI Office or other documents such as school reports or baptism certificates, you can use an approximate DOB you have used before, such as with Centrelink when applying for assistance.
If you know a part of your DOB, such as the year but not month or day, or any combination thereof, use ‘01’ in the relevant field for the part(s) you don’t know (e.g. 01/01/1987; 01/10/1987, 10/01/1987). Your DOB can also be updated later if or when you find your correct DOB.
I cannot create a USI account because my email address is being used by someone elseClose the I cannot create a USI account because my email address is being used by someone else FAQ item.
Every USI account must have a unique email address. A shared email cannot be accepted. If you are sharing an email e.g. with a family member, you will need to create your own email address to have a USI account. If you do not want to create your own email address you will not be able to use ‘email’ as one of your contact methods.
You may already have a USI and your email address has been used to create your account - this could have been created by you or a training provider could have created one on your behalf.

What if another USI account matches my details?Close the What if another USI account matches my details? FAQ item.
There could be 3 reasons for this:
- You could have forgotten that you created a USI;
- Your Training Organisation may have created one for you, or
- There could be someone with similar details to yours.
You can use the ‘forgotten USI’ on our website to retrieve your USI.
If this doesn’t work please contact the USI Office.
