If you are studying at a training organisation they may have created a USI account on your behalf. If you are not currently studying and believe that a training organisation has not created a USI on your behalf or another student may have similar details to you.
Please try to create a USI again. If after three failed attempts this continues you will be able to raise a Help Request by clicking on ‘request help’ and a USI Office staff member will contact you. Please make sure your contact details are correct.

Your town or city of birth appears on your birth certificate and often your passport. If you do not have a birth certificate or passport you may need to use the closest town or city to where you were born (make a best guess).

If you have a USI account already, you can now change your gender by logging into your USI account and selecting ‘Update Personal Details’. No documentation is required to prove your gender.

If you are unable to locate your date of birth (DOB) on any document accepted by the USI Office or other documents such as school reports or baptism certificates, you can use an approximate DOB you have used before, such as with Centrelink when applying for assistance.
If you know a part of your DOB, such as the year but not month or day, or any combination thereof, use ‘01’ in the relevant field for the part(s) you don’t know (e.g. 01/01/1987; 01/10/1987, 10/01/1987). Your DOB can also be updated later if or when you find your correct DOB.

To help protect your privacy the USI system does not allow more than one person/multiple people to record the same email address as their contact detail for this service. If you are sharing an email e.g. with a family member, you will need to create your own email address in order to use email as a point of contact for USI purposes. If you do not want to create your own email address you can use one or more of the other contact details options such as your mobile phone number and/or your postal address.
If the system does not accept your email address and it is not a shared email it may be because you already have a USI and your email address has been used to create that account - this could have been created by you some time ago or a training provider could have created one on your behalf. You can use the ‘Forgotten USI’ function to find out if you already have a USI.

An activation link is sent to either your email or mobile number or as a last option to your mailing address. Activating your account means using the activation link that was sent to your nominated contact details to set up your account information, and password and security check questions. Once completed, you will be able to log in to your account. Your training provider cannot do this part for you.
