What is a VET Admission Body or VAB?
In order to qualify as a VAB, you must meet one of the definitions specified by the Student Identifiers Registrar in the Student Identifiers (VET Admission Bodies) Instrument 2015
a government or non-government school authority or individual school whose students undertake a VET in school programme
a provider of Australian apprenticeship support services contracted by the Australian government Australian Apprenticeship Centre
a Commonwealth, state or territory correctional services facility
an organisation that has previously been awarded VRB access to the USI Registry System, or
one of the four agencies nominated in the legislative instrument that manage admissions to VET.
Note: It is possible for a government agency that is responsible for VET to be granted access to the USI Registry System as both a VRB and a VAB where they need to perform both roles.
What can a VAB do in the USI Registry System?
- apply for USIs on behalf of individuals
- verify USIs, with the individual’s permission.
What information do I need to provide to make an access request?
You will need to provide the following information:
confirmation that you meet the definition of a VAB from the Student Identifiers (VET Admission Bodies) Instrument 2015, as well as a business case for why you require access to the USI Registry System to create or verify USIs on behalf of individuals
your Australian Business Number (ABN) and the entity name associated with your ABN on https://abr.gov.au
your preferred display name in the USI Registry System, with which USI account holders will be able to search for your organisation to grant access to their records
a specific email address for receiving updates from the USI Office, recommended to be a group or general inbox to ensure that you continue to receive updates even if there are internal staffing changes
an indication of which way you will access the USI Registry System:
through this website (from which your staff can logon to process one-on-one transactions for functions such as collecting, verifying or viewing USIs),
through a direct connection with your Student Management System using Web Services (to do multiple or batch USI transactions of collecting, verifying or viewing USIs).
How can I make an access request to the USI Registry System?
You can request access via an application to the Student Identifiers Registrar here.
How do I setup access to the registry?
Please visit the set up access to the USI Registry System page for more information on setting up access in the USI Registry System.
Note: All VABs are required to have an AUSKey for login to use the USI Registry System.
