Make the move to USI Web Service Version 5

All education or training providers who use the USI Registry System through their Student Management System (SMS) need to move to Web Service Version 5.

Education or training providers connecting to the USI Registry System through the USI Organisation Portal are unaffected by Web Service changes.

Important dates

Web Service Version 5 went live on 1 September 2022. Providers need to take action and talk to their SMS provider or software developer (Digital Service Provider), to ensure they move to Web Service Version 5.

Web Service Version 4 will be decommissioned on 14 July 2023.

Key changes

Key changes in Web Service Version 5 included:

  • a mandatory driver’s license card number field for all States and Territories
  • emojis blocked in free text fields.
Note: special characters which are already allowed to be entered in name fields should not be restricted with the emoji / image restrictions.

When can my organisation move to Web Service Version 5?

Your organisation can connect to Web Service Version 5 now.

What happens if my organisation hasn't moved to Web Service Version 5?

Providers who have not made the move to Version 5 cannot verify driver’s licences, when creating or updating a student’s USI.

Web Service Version 4 will be decommissioned entirely on 14 July 2023. Providers who have not made the move to Web Service Version 5 after this date will no longer be able to access the USI Registry System through their SMS.

How can my organisation make the move to Version 5?

Your SMS provider or software developer will be able to help you make the move to the new version. Please speak with them in the first instance.

Current Web Service developers do not need to reapply for a Developer Kit.

Developers can obtain the updated Developer Kit and Technical Services Contract by contacting our IT team
